What is kombucha?

Pronounced: kom-bu-cha
noun: kombucha: plural noun: kombuchas

1. a beverage produced by fermenting sweet tea with a culture of yeast and bacteria (Otherwise known as a “SCOBY”).

In simple terms, kombucha
is a naturally energizing, lightly effervescent fermented tea. It's a living drink, for our living bodies! Kombucha is best enjoyed at anytime of the day, especially when you need a little pick-me up, after a late-night (see: hangover) and/or after a large meal. It can also be used as a substitute for sugary beverages like pop or juice.

We are slowly starting to re-introduce fermented foods back into our diets as the number of those suffering from gut health problems is rising. Kombucha gets to work fighting the "bad" yeast in your gut candida.

How should I drink kombucha?

Do not shake your WTK, just flip it upside down and swirl the ingredients. Drink your kombucha straight out of the bottle, mixed on ice with soda water or mixed in a smoothie or cocktail. Check out our BLOG for recipes.

How much kombucha should I drink?

We recommend starting with ¼ cup to a ½ cup 2x per day, once in the morning and once at night, with plenty of water to help flush toxins. Over time, your body will ask you for more!

dOES kombucha NEED TO BE REFRIGERATED?

Yes! If you leave your kombucha on the counter, the yeast bacteria could start to re-ferment the residual sugars. This is perfectly fine and normal, just be careful when you open the bottle as you may get a foamy mess!

I'm pregnant, is it okay for me to drink Kombucha?

We recommend that you talk to your doctor before incorporating kombucha into your diet while pregnant.

Is Kombucha safe for kids?

Although the alcohol and caffeine levels in kombucha are low, kids bodies are much more sensitive than adults. We recommend consulting with your family doctor or pediatrician before giving kombucha to your child.

How long does kombucha last?

Each Wild Tea Kombucha is marked with a refrigerated best before date. Our cocktail flavours have a 6 month shelf life, Sodas have an 18 month shelf life, and our ciders have a 12 month shelf life.

What are the alcohol and caffeine levels?

Wild Tea Kombucha is bottled with less than 1% alcohol and is considered a non-alcoholic beverage. Trace amounts of alcohol are a by-product of natural fermentation.

The main ingredient in Wild Tea Kombucha is black and green tea therefore, there is caffeine present the product. Kombucha is generally considered to lose about 2/3’s of its caffeine through the fermentation process. We caution those with caffeine sensitivities to check with their doctor before consuming kombucha.
